He returned to Cuba in 1944 and played a leading role in the establishment of the Cuban Communist Party’s new political organization, the Popular Socialist Party.

Hernandez remained a prominent figure in Cuban politics until his death in 1977. He was a charismatic leader who inspired a generation of Cubans to fight for social justice and a better future. His legacy continues to live on in Cuba today, where he is revered as a national hero.
